More Coffee Tables Please!

30 Jun

Here is another batch of Coffee Tables to inspire your D.I.Y. (do-it-yourself) spirit.  Lately, I have been in “table” mode. I have been picking up pieces I can use for both bottoms and tops.  I recently picked up some wrought iron sewing machine legs circa 1800’s to add to my collection. Also, picked up an old door with some beautiful details that someone was tossing out curbside. Anyhow, check out these coffee tables. Wood is a wonderful resource for reclaiming, refinishing and reusing. Getting your hands on some re-purposed table legs or frames can give you some cool finished pieces.

For me it’s all about reclaiming ~ re-purposing ~ recreating. Why not reuse the old to reinvent the new. So over your next cup of java make a plan to D.I.Y. (do-it-yourself) your very own Coffee Table. Let green thinking rule.

“RE~TIRE”

18 Apr

I tend to prefer re-purposing various natural inspired materials like reclaimed wood, metals, textiles, paper products, glass and stone.  Working with these materials keeps me connected to nature and I find them easier to integrate into my design projects, artwork and stand alone styling.

However, my hat goes off to those who recycle and re-purpose man made items. I can definitely appreciate that someone can take something that was made with one purpose in mind and put a new spin on it. These are the items, that by re-inventing their use, landfills get a reprieve from becoming a wasted dumping ground. The tire is one of those things that needs to find a second life.

Image

Just think! Our cars and trucks look spectacular in a new set of tires and rims! Remember there are four in a set. We are encouraged to dump tires every season or every few years for a new set! Got the picture! That is a lot of Tires. Well it’s time to “Re-Tire” and burn rubber. These designs are awesome:

Headboard Heaven

13 Apr

Decorating is both a personal thing as well as a public display of who you are.

People either get others to create their space for them or they create their own haven.

Your bedroom is one of those areas that needs to entice and comfort you, as well as, maintain its functionality as a place to rest your head.

Lets face facts, your eyes may be closed for the better part of your time in your bedroom.

Styling bedrooms often starts with the bed as a focal point.

The “headboard” is an opportunity to creatively set your bed apart from all others.

Nowadays by just thinking a little green, doing a some reclaiming, moderately re-purposing you can do a whole lot of reCREATing.

Welcome to my “Headboard Heaven” where the angels sing lullabies of reclaimed, re-purposed, reCREATed Coolness!

Pallet Romp

1 Apr

“As promised the wonderful, versatile, utilitarian, raw, inspiring Pallet makes another guest appearance…”

This time we step it up another notch with designs and projects that involve a little more Do~It~Yourself (DIY) acumen however these are still very manageable and doable.

As I keep checking out this understudy of raw reclaimed material I am both intrigued and awestruck with the Pallet’s ability to be re-purposed and reCREATed.

“Check out some of these pieces people have created in another cool Pallet Romp…”

Multipurpose shelving is an awesome way to use the Pallet. The cool thing is that it can be enhanced with the finish or lack of finish, modified with added details such as wheels and stacked in various combinations.

Different table styles are also a creative option with the Pallet. Once again the finish can enhance, adding other re-purposed features like legs and configuration is key to the final purpose.

A Pallet feature wall or flooring in the right room or space may be an interesting alternative to other materials. Sanding, staining, painting, vertical or horizontal placement will all impact on the final look. Until I saw these I would not of considered using the Pallet in this innovative way.

Add photographs or plants to a Pallet and create a cool piece for any indoor or outdoor space.

A Pallet Gate Anyone? Looks great with all the plants.

Could also work as garden division or feature walls.

The black finish looks pretty sleek.

“The Pallet is proving to be quite the contender in the reclaimed, re-purposed and reCREATing world…”

Home Brewed Coffee Tables

“Coffee Tables”

One of those essential pieces of furniture that is actually functional

as well as a stylish focal point within a room.

Once upon a time the coffee table was very Traditional.

In the right setting it had a very refined antique look.

A fine solid wood or a more affordable wood laminate was usually used.

ImageImage

Coffee Tables took on a more modern sleeker look…glass and man made materials!

ImageImage

With re-purposing and living green in the forefront the look of Coffee Tables has seen a transformation over the last several years.

With Green intentions and the push on reclaiming, re-purposing and recreating at the forefront the Coffee Table has been re-invented…

Check out the following Home Brewed concepts and get inspired…

Reclaim a Coffee Table!

ImageImageImage

The Vintage Factory Cart is very popular as a Coffee Table.

Note: Finding the raw cart is a little project within itself.

The Old Door is another cool option for a Coffee Table.

Note: Old doors of varying styles and patina are in abundance.

Use solid wood doors not those new construction hollow doors.

Wood Stumps, Cross Sections or Natural Wood – is a work of natural beauty for a Coffee Table.

The grain, the unique cuts, the knots, the color, the versatility…beautiful!

Note: Country outings are your best source of getting a reclaimed tree.

Some lumber yards or salvage shops may carry pieces of wood

however they may be pricier than their country counterparts.

The Window Frame Coffee Table like the door offers another cool alternative.

Note: You may need to reinforce the glass panels.

The styling promotes a beach, country or garden feel.
